I’m kind of thinking about getting a Nikon camera. Can someone post a link of the BEST nikon/canon camera that takes good quality photos and that is close to 0-550?

For someone who’s just starting out, I’d go for a Canon XSi or Nikon D3000. If you want video, go for a T1i or a D5000.
As far as picking between Nikon and Canon, I see a lot of "Nikon takes better pictures than canon" and visa-versa on here, but there’s really very little difference. Go to a camera store, pick up the cameras you’re looking at, compare the layout of the controls and menu on the Nikon and Canon, and decide which one you like. If you get into photography, you end up investing a lot in a particular brand’s system and its expensive to change, so you want to start with the system you feel most comfortable with.
I started off with a Canon because I liked how it felt in my hands better than the Nikon seven years ago, and now I can confidently order a Canon DSLR that I’ve never held because I know I will be comfortable with the button layout and menu system.
I would recommend doing some research on the features of the various entry level cameras, http://www.dpreview.com is an amazing resource for this. Go under buying guide and hit side-by-side search. It compares the features of the cameras you choose, and they have a great glossary to explain the various terms used. I did over 3 months of research before I bought my first DSLR, and knowing what it’s capable of will give you much better results in the end. The advanced features aren’t going to help you if you just end up setting everything on automatic.
Whichever camera you get, I would highly recommend getting it with the kit lens, you’ll rarely ever get a chance to get a lens of any sort for just $99.
I would get the Nikon D3000 and if you can afford the extra cost, I would say the D5000.
The D3000 Nikon has a higher rated sensor in its camera than the Canon XS and the D5000 is ahead of both of them. See the 1st link below that is to DxO Labs who reviews and rates the image sensors in many cameras.
Also, here are the prices I just found by doing a quick peek at B&H Photo:
Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens – $460
EOS Rebel XS (1000D) 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit w/18-55mm IS Lens – $550
Nikon D5000 12MP DSLR Digital Camera w/18-55mm VR Lens – $640
So the Nikon D3000 costs less also. I added some other websites you can compare prices and read customer reviews.
Hope this helps.

or Nikon camera in this price range that I would recommend is Nikon D3000. It does not have live view function to view subject on lcd monitor like Canon but come with 11 point auto focus which provide sharp and better detail of pictures.
