Definetly nothing in a magazine or on a billboard, Nothing would be bigger than an 8×10 if printed out.

I have heard many great things from the canon but haven’t seen any reviews from the sony. I have also heard that the higher the MP are,the faster your memory cards fill up. I have a digital polaroid 10MP and I buy the 2GB and it can fit about 1000 pictures on the card.

Yes I know it has to be one that I AM comfortable with. I know that. I want to know which one is a better camera>
It comes as a package deal. The sony is cheaper at $516 and the canon is $619. The other canon with the 50-200mm lens would be $649 which I can’t afford.

I really would be just taking pictures of my kid. Really want to upgrade from my crappy digital that can’t snap a photo fast enough.
I just read this about the canon…..10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor captures enough detail for poster-size, photo-quality prints

I would take the Canon over the Sony without even thinking about it. The Rebel is capable of taking nice photos.

Here is the same kit at B&H for $599.98 (after instant rebate) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/589104-REG/Canon_EOS_Rebel_XS_a_k_a.html

Check out your local camera stores (not electronic store), this week a local shop is having a “Canon week” sale (with Canon reps, giveaways, etc on Saturday). They have the same kit you are talking about or the Rebel XS with the 18-55 & 55-250IS lenses, for $599.98

But now the bad news…start saving your pennies if you want to get into the DSLR realm of photography (this goes for any brand).

You will want to upgrade the lenses to a faster lens (the lower the f/stop number the “faster” it is…f/2.8 or faster is better for dealing with inside shots due to less lighting). I would also suggest getting a flash diffuser for your camera to cut down on “bright spots”until you can afford a nice hot shoe flash that you can angle.

I would also suggest taking a weekend camera course at your local community college (or even local camera shop, sometime the basic course is free if you buy the camera there).

Good luck

Should I get the Canon Rebel XS or XSi?

I’m interested in doing photography as a hobby. I have done a lot of research, looked at plenty of cameras, and I’ve narrowed it down to these two entry-level DSLRs. I only know that the XSi has a bigger screen and 2 more megapixels, and those differences don’t really matter.. So, what have I missed? I have read several in-depth reviews but it’s still hard to decide!
Which one should I get; the XS or XSi? And please give a REASON as to why I should get one or the other.

Note: I’m not going to buy a DSLR right away, but I just wanna know ahead of time. I have been leaning towards the XSi a bit because hopefully, by the time I have enough money to buy a DSLR, the price of the XSi would have been reduced.

And another thing, I don’t tell me that a camera is just a tool. I know that already. I have done so much reading about photography in the past couple of months. So I’m sure that whichever camera I get will deliver great image quality, but I just want to make sure I’m going in the right direction.

And if you want me to go to a camera/electronic store that has these two cameras and test them out for myself, then I’ll try to do that when I get the chance.

rob answers:

If you are only deciding between those two models, then I recommend the XSi (450D). It has now been superceded by the T1i (500D) however, it isn’t that much of an improvement, plus it’s RAW performance is actually worse than the XSi. I own the 450D and am very happy with it. I obviously recommend you go to a camera store and check it out for yourself. Some people find it physically a little too small for their hands, but others find that it’s just the right size. Others might tell you it feels cheap and flimsy…but that’s crap.

Both cameras are almost identical. Canon mainly brought out the XS (after the XSi/450D) and gave it a few less features mainly to make it very affordable for people wanting their first dSLR.

However, the XSi has a few extra features, making it the slightly better camera. So, I think it’s worth forking out the few extra dollars for it.

The main differences are…
XSi has an extra 2MP (only a slight gain), but it does have slightly better high ISO capability (less noise) than the XS.
XSi has spot metering (XS does not have it)
9-point AF versus 7-point on the XS
3.5fps (XSi) versus 3.0fps (XS)
3.0″ LCD (XSi) versus 2.5″ LCD (XS)
Proximity Sensor (XSi only) This is a cool feature (the LCD screen turns off whenever you put your eye to the viewfinder and then turns on again when you take your eye away.
Remote Control Sensor (only available on the XSi)

One last thing…lens choice is very important. The kit lens may be ok for starters, but you’ll need or want something better later on. With lenses (especially telephoto lenses) you get what you pay for, so don’t skimp on the lens if getting a telephoto…
An exception would be the EF 50mm f/1.8. It’s an ultra cheap plasticky and toylike, prime lens (one focal length only) but optically, it’s quite sharp. Most photographers will recommend this lens or for a better built lens, and one with USM and slightly better bokeh, look at the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM. These lenses are great for portraits and low light.

Good luck…

Powered by Yahoo! class="dtm-content">I was just struggling with the same question myself, and today I went out and purchased the T2i for myself. I figured since the T2i takes video in 1080p and will also take pictures at 18.1MP it was the best deal for me. When I was looking at the HD Video cameras, the stills that resulted were never as good as a cameras. Plus the T2i is a DSLR, you will be able to purchase several different lenses and you will be able to upgrade it over time. I do not think you will regret the DSLR over the HD video camera.

I was just struggling with the same question myself, and today I went out and purchased the T2i for myself.

When you get into this level of DSLR’s they are comprable when it comes to battery life, since they both use state of the art Li-ion batteries. Charging time is about 3 hours for both when first charging, less when recharging depending upon how much charge is left in the battery.

Both are duable … They are made by the two leaders suppying camera systems to the professionals. For this reason lenses are available everywhere professional camera systems are sold as well as litterally millions of good used cameras and lenses made by them.

There seems to be an issue with Canon’s in that they are not directly accessable by the computer as a removable drive, so the Canon software has to be installed on the computer being used in order to access the image files however, a simple card reader solves that problem for unually under $10.

The length of time it takes image files to move from the memory card to the computer depends mostly on the number and size of the image files on it. Both use USB 2.0 connection ports.

For the absolute best test to see which one is the best for your style of shooting, you might want to do this: Go into a camera store that sells both brands and hold both in your hands … Practice using them.

* Which is the easiest for you to use?
* Which menu is the easiest for you to navigate and make crucial changes while shooting.
* Which do you find the easiest to adjust aperture and shutter speeds while looking through the viewfinder … Without having to remove your eye from it. (Action and sports photographers need this feature).

Lens choice really depends upon the type photography you tend to shoot. You will need to buy what you want at the time of purchase.

You will need wide angle lenses for shooting landscapes and architectural subjects, telephoto for shooting wildlife and sports or action photography and of course a general lens for shooting most of your images.

Choose the lens or lenses which will best provide you with the shots you tend to shoot

If you do not have any experience with shooting a 35mm SLR, you may want to attend a photo class and learn how to compose, expose, develop and print your own images. It is this experience which will get you into the magic of photography in a big way and prevent the many frustrations that befall new photographers.

Powered by Yahoo! class="dtm-content">
What Canon Rebel T3i Lens should I go with?

I recently purchased a Canon Rebel T3i and it came with the 18-55mm lens. I am new to photography but want to start learning and practicing taking great photos. I am mostly going to be using this camera to take pictures of my daughter. I want to do like beach pictures and just nature pictures of her. What lens would you suggest I go with. Right now this lens does not zoom much so for the beach and being a little distance away I don’t think it will really work… Any help would be greatly appreciated. class="headshot">

rob answers:

My suggestion would be this. Learn what you’re doing with this camera first. Don’t invest in anything until you know more about the camera, how to operate it and the lens. Once you get that underway, in say 6-months or so, then invest.

When you do buy a telephoto lens however I’d suggest that you buy what we call an all around solution. By that I mean a lens that is wide at the bottom say 18mm and has a pretty good reach of
say 200mm.

I suggest this because every time you change lenses you’re opening the camera body to dust and other problems. The less you change lenses the less potential problems you create. With say an
18-200 lens you have wide and zoom without changing. There’s lots of people who change lenses all the time and then complain because they have dust on their sensor which makes for spots in your photos which then means a trip to the camera shop for a professional cleaning.

Good Luck

If your ‘best’ means that you take money out of the decision making process, then the 580EXII is the best. The flash is custom designed for Canon and you can modify the configuration using the camera menu. If you can afford it, this will be the choice.

You are probably faced with the dilemma because the Sigma is cheaper. You will have to decide whether you need the features missing in the Sigma. My opinion is that if you are a casual user relying on hot-shoe mounted TTL than the Sigma is probably a good choice. As I don’t have experience with the Sigma, you will need to compare the other specs like exposure accuracy, recycle time, user interface (menu), etc.

<div

I came across an offer today of 250euros for the BODY ONLY. Is this a good price, or how much should I be looking to pay for one? It doesn’t include any acessories at all like the software, leads etc….would I be able to pick these up easy without buying a package deal?

Any recommendations on lenses too? My friend I got advice off said he wasn’t too impressed with the standard kit lens 18-55.

Even any extra advice aswell for a beginner is much appreciated.
So how much do you price a 450d in its original box with the acessories minus the lens?
Does the 450d have a movie mode? I saw some videos on youtube where they do but all the comments are asking questions on how to do it.

Bad deal, just walk away.

You should never buy a literal “body only” camera. By the time you purchase all the things that should have come with it, you will have spent more than the set is worth. Not to mention something like that screams stolen property…

A body only camera should have everything included in the original box, minus a lens.

Actually, the kit lens is a pretty decent piece of gear for no more than it costs. Sure, it pales in comparison to a lens that costs 10x as much, like the 17-55 IS, but wouldn’t you expect it to do so? You can get very good shots with the kit lens. If you have the money to spend on L glass, then by all means do so, but if you are on a budget, the kit lens is a perfectly good choice.

Building on the answer above me, I would look into the T2i. The T3 is a model that they released to be more budget friendly since the cost of the T3i is relatively high. But there are some great features and much better performance in the T3i that really are worth that extra money. But the T2i also has a great many of those features, but since it is not produced anymore, you should be able to pick up a gently used or refurbished model for a pretty good discount compared to a new T3i.

Another thing you want to consider is lenses. The prices you are looking at only included a kit lens, but you will most likely want a larger zoom lens in addition, and maybe a cheap prime lens, which will add to your initial cost. I might recommend looking for a T2i kit with the 18-55 and with a 55-250 IS included. Another fantastic lens is the 50mm F/1.8, its very fast, very sharp, and very cheap for the quality you get, but it depends on the applications you are going for!

Powered by Yahoo! class="dtm-content">If your film camera is early 80′s or before then no. These cameras used FD or FL lenses that push into place and are locked by a rotating ring. These do not fit a digital SLR without an adaptor which, to be honest, is a total expensive waste of time.

If your film camera is an auto-focus EOS then these used EF lenses which will fit and work on any Canon digital SLR.

The above only applies to Canon manufactured lenses.
If you have older Sigma lenses for your EOS film camera they will not work on a digital SLR. The electronics are incompatible so they will give “Error 99 (?) lens error” if you try to use them at anything other than full aperture. Some can be rechipped but most cannot. I found this out the hard way when I bought a cheap 2nd hand Sigma lens for my EOS450D.
Based on this experience, other older non Canon manufactured lenses may also physically mount onto a Canon digital SLR but may not be electronically compatible.

Compact cameras are generally compromised by the small size of their sensors, this often means more noise, poor definition and over-processing. Depth of field is less pronounced with small sensors and things like diffraction can affect image quality.

There are two genuine options if you want DSLR style image quality, one is the Sigma DP1 the other is the Olympus PEN-1, though as the PEN 1 is an interchangable lens camera it is only particularly compact with the 17mm lens (equiv to 35mm in old money) both these cameras have decent sized sensors, a raw mode and carious controls over exposure.

I also use a Ricoh GR digital aside my SLR and it is tiny, but a fixed lens, the Rioch GX100 or 200 might be an option but be ready for long file writing times and intrusive noise at anything above ISO200.

It would not have a lens with it. The SLR cameras allow you to switch lenses in and out at will; most have a starter kit that includes a good, generic lens that is fine for everyday situations; then you can add wide angle, etc. As your interest and pocketbook allows.

I would check for a starter kit on the same camera; its not the best lens usually but is decent. I purchased the Canon EOS SLR in both film and digital versions and each came with a lens that I still use as the default.

Powered by Yahoo! I know that not many carry this camera, but I’m just curious. Only because I really don’t know if the Canon DSLR camera‘s(that I put in the question) have had a predecessor in the past couple of years or very recently.

Now I know it was probably a stupid question, but I know that the Canon PowerShot SX40 HS stands on the same grounds of the new PowerShot S100, and the PowerShot G12. The PowerShot S95 had received impressive reviews since its release, and the PowerShot S100 just surpasses it of course.

I’ve searched reviews competing against both the EOS DSLR Rebel XS, and EOS DSLR Rebel T3 from the PowerShot SX40 HS. And they say that it beats them both, but I really can’t tell from those sites. This is also a price matter, because the PowerShot SX40 HS is only $429.99. While the Rebel XS is $549.99, and the Rebel T3 is $599.99.

Now what differs the two DSLR camera‘s from the new PowerShot SX40 HS, because I wan’t to know if it’s still worth getting either. If Canon has rumors of a predecessor for the Rebel XS, and the Rebel T3 camera‘s. That would be great to know. Please help me with my final suggestion before I purchase a new camera.

Http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_Rebel#Digital_cameras and scroll all the way down, there’s a timeline for the rebel series.

A DSLR has a far, far bigger sensor than any compact. This generally means less, noise, more detail, more dynamic range and higher light sensitivity.

A 549 camera comes with a single lens that has only a relatively small zoom range. It also requires skill to make it perform.. A good compact, and canon’s S and SX series tends to be very good, it designed to be used by a relatively unskilled user.

It all depends what you want.. If you want to take photography as a hobby seriously then the rebel is the way to go. If not then get a compact.

I would go with the Nikon D5000 and one of the reasons is that it is a newer model and I think has advantages because of this with features like higher ISO performance, and HD video.

Below is a link to a web page at the DxO Labs website showing a comparison of sensor performance from the 2 cameras and the Nikon D5000 rates higher.

Hope this helps.

Mark

marksablow.com

<div

I saw one rumor that the 70D will be released in summer of 2011. Here’s the link: http://jeak.com/canon-eos-70d/
1. I seriously doubt the 60D will be replaced anytime this year. Canon is working on some big stuff, but it’s all in the 5D and 1D lines right now.
2. The 60D is still relatively new in the lineup. You’ll see a replacement for the 7D, 5D and 1D series before the 60D. The 60D was released in August of 2010. The shortest time frame between new cameras is about 18 months. Usually it’s about 2 years. Definitely not on the slate to come out just yet. Might be in development, but it won’t come for a while.
3. Canon suffered some setbacks with the earth quake which has put them behind on the cameras they had intended to release this year. They’re playing catch up as is Nikon. They aren’t going to release a replacement for a camera that was made last year when they have the pro’s crying for a replacement to the 5D Mark II which was released in 2008.
4. Canon is neck deep in the EVIL development

If you want a fairly credible source for Canon rumors… Www.canonrumors.com

Has anybody heard any rumours about the Canon EOS Rebel T4i?

I am looking to buy the T3i right after Christmas. But I have seen some rumours online that the T4i will be released in early February 2012. Has anybody heard of these rumours? If this is true, I would love to know. I don’t kind waiting an extra month if it means getting the newest model. It would suck do buy a camera then have the newer version come out!

No such rumors as far as i know, and given that the T3i has just been released, i wouldn’t be holding my breath. The T3i was only a minor upgrade to the T2i though, so a new generation indeed may be coming soon.

Anyway, a DSLR body is something that you’ll be using for four to five years. It will be succeeded by a newer one at some point during its use anyway. That’s a thought you should get used to.
Don’t buy the newest gear just for the sake of buying the newest gear…many people who bought a T3i would have been better off with a T2i, as that one offers better value for money for most purposes – it’s nearly identical to the T3i except for two or three features that are quite irrelevant to most people.
In fact, often the “older” generation of DSLR bodies offers excellent value for money, and they are still very good cameras by today’s standards – camera technology has progressed to a point where things don’t change that much anymore.
Look at e.g. The Nikon D90. If you don’t care about video recording, then it’s an excellent deal even though it’s about 3 years old. Same about the aforementioned T2i. I’d prefer it over a T3i any day, and save the difference in price for a good lens.

Powered by Yahoo!
