My boss gave me two choices for a company camera: Canon EOS 30D or Canon EOS Rebel XTi. Why is the EOS 30D considered a better camera if the Rebel XTI is higher megapixels?
I also have the choice of two lenses, 18-55 mm EF-S lens or 17-85mm IS Lens. I’m definitely going with the 17-85mm.

The 30D has a sturdier body (magnesium alloy vs. strong plastic) , bigger grip, more metering choices and shoots more frames per second. Both cameras use a similar 9 point focus system. Don’t let the MP count fool you. Unless you’re going to poster size prints or cropping extremly tight, you will never know the difference.
Wow, he gave you a choice on lens? Definately the 17-85 IS, that’s the big reason I didn’t go with a cannon because the kit lens was crap and I couldn’t afford to buy the 17-85.
Go to http://www.dpreview.com and check out the reviews and go to the cannon SLR discussion forum (on left) and see what everyday people are saying (pros/cons). Higher mp isn’t everything. You can only cram so many mp on a sensor that’s the same size.
Good luck!
30D is the better camera
That’s a lot of camera for a ‘company’ camera.
He’s crazy for spending that much dough on a camera that will be passed around. However, the build quality is much more rugged on the 30D, so definately go with that one.
as was previously mentioned- the kit lens isn’t great. go with the better one, especially if someone else is paying.
