Hi,
I have an OLD model of the Canon Digital Rebel and need to upload the photos to my laptop.
I don’t have any of the discs that would have come with the camera.
Not sure if it matters, but I am currently using XP on my computer.
Help!
Thanks!

The camera should have come with a USB cable. When you plug in the camera and turn it on, XP should search for drivers. The CDs are unnecessary because IF you require the drivers you can download them directly from Canon’s website. After the camera is recognized and drivers installed, simply right click on Start in Windows, navigate to My Computer > Canon Camera (or whatever they name your memory card in explorer) and open that folder. Then select the images on the card and drag them to any folder on your C: drive. Once you are SURE SURE SURE the images are in fact on the computer’s hard drive, reselect the images on the card and delete them so it’s clean for the next shoot.
There are SEVERAL ways to get images off the computer, it’s really a matter of preference. You can also buy a flash card reader for $30 and plug THAT into a USB slot on the computer instead.
One other way is if you have a printer that takes memory cards you can remove your card from your Camera and upload your pictures that way.
I agree with being very careful to erase the photos from the card until you are very sure they are on your laptop.
