One has a 10. 1 Mega-Pixel 28-80mm lens and the other has 10MP D–SLR with 18-55mm Zoom lens. They are advertised at two different stores and I copied just how they were advertised. Each camera also has a 75-300mm Zoom lens that comes with this pkg deal. The first pkg deal is 9.00 at Best Buy and the second one is 7.00 at American TV. Which is a better lens and which is the best deal?

The 18-55mm will give you a good wide angle so you can take great landscapes. The 75-300mm will give you a good lens for shooting field sports and wildlife
The first camera has a better lense, it zooms farther. I would suggest buying the first one because it is only thirty-two dollars more and has a much better lense and .1 more megapixels.
It’s unclear what lens is being sold with the first package, so you’d need to ask a BB employee to verify.
The 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 is the kit lens that is available bundled with the XTi. It effectively measures out to about 28-88mm. The one advertised as 28-80mm is probably a 18-50mm lens (nobody sells 28-80mm lenses with digitals anymore) which Canon doesn’t make. It’s most likely a Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 which is a third party lens.
From what I’ve read, the Canon kit lens isn’t the greatest but churns out decent pictures. I’d think you can only tell when you examine results at 100% magnification and do a side by side with a nicer lens so it really shouldn’t matter unless you look at everything under a magnifying glass (or are seriously into photography). There’s about 5mm difference on the telephoto end, but it’s covered by the 75-300mm so there’s really no loss. I think the Sigma does offer closer focusing distance. For a difference of nearly $40 there’s really no sense to get the Sigma, but if you’ve got money growing on trees go with the first package.
Again, verify with BB that you aren’t being sold the Canon 18-55 or some other lens. If it was an advertisement mistake, you’re over-paying. If it’s another lens other than the Canon or Sigma mentioned above it’s better if you get the second package. If it checks out fine and you do decide on the first package, make sure you’re getting THREE items with your purchase: the XTi body, the Sigma 18-50mm, and the 75-300mm. If they only hand you two at checkout (Canon XTi Lens Kit and the 75-300), you’ve been swindled — BB has a nasty habit of turning tricks. If you decide to go to American TV, you should get two boxes.
The 18-55 will give you a better wide angle.
28-80 will give you a more powerful zoom.
I got a NIKON D50 with a 28-80. I’m happy with it.
The rat
I’d pass on the second lens offering (75-300mm) since you’ll need some sort of image stabilization in order [like the Olympus E-510] to hold the lens steady.
Currently at samys.com, a new Canon Rebl XTi with normal 18-35mm lense sells for $610 while an older "factory" refurbished XT [8 megapixels] with normal lense sells for $450.00.
I’d highly recommend the better valued Canon Rebel XT to purchase at this time.
Good luck!
I wouldn’t shop at either BestBuy or American TV for your camera package! You’ll either pay too much or get poor service or even both!
Check out the ratings for American TV here:

Not exactly the best. And BestBuy is even worse!
So first: the lenses you want are the 18-55mm Zoom and the 75-300mm zoom. Don’t get the 28-80mm lens; it’s not wide enough for group shots inside a house or room.
Instead go here:
http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CNDRXTI1855S
Get the Canon XTi with the 18-55mm lens for $589, then add the 75-300 from Canon at this link for $139.99:
http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CN75300III
589 + 139.99 = 728.99
That’s $100 less than American TV and $68 less than Best Buy from a higher rated store.
