William asks…
Nikon, Canon or Olympus digital SLR camera?
Basically for my birthday I would like a digital SLR camera. However, I am unsure as to which make is the best, most reliable and best value for money! An reviews on a particular make would be appreciated thanks ![]()

rob answers:
Canon makes the best Point & Shoot cameras, but Nikon makes the best DSLR’s. It’s not the image quality and size that makes the difference between the two, it little things ( that for a pro are really important ) like the location and easily to reach and use buttons on the Nikon’s. The dedicated ISO, White balance and Image Size buttons, the camera ergonomics and how it feels in your hand, and the most important thing, the TWO command dials Nikon has and can do anything as apposed to Canon’s one command dial and having to hold an extra button to make it usable as the second in Nikon’s.

Jenny asks…
is the Canon EOS Rebel T3i 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera good?
well obviously its good, but other reviews? also does it include effects like fish eye & grainy? what other effects does it have? are there any cameras like that one that are better and around the same price or cheaper?

rob answers:
I don’t know how many times we need to go through this here.
The t3i, in case you hadn’t noticed, is a dslr – fully controllable camera, it’s not a gimmick. It’s not loaded with “effects”. These cameras are designed for serious photographers not snappers. They are designed to be under the photographer’s full control for lighting, exposure, shutter speed, ISO and other things.
If it’s effects junk you want buy a cheap point and shoot. If it’s serious photography you want and you’re willing to take the time to learn how to use such a camera the t3i will be excellent.

Thomas asks…
Which digital SLR camera should I buy with a budget of £500?
The title is pretty self-explanatory. I have exactly £500 with which to buy a digital SLR camera. From looking at reviews I’m leaning towards the Canon EOS 1000D.. but I really don’t know an awful lot about cameras so any help would be really appreciated, thanks in advance.

rob answers:
Here is a winner.

As you can see, it outperforms the 1000D in a number of ways

Robert asks…
How to use a Canon Rebel SLR T1 i ?
I’m a beginning photographer meaning I have only used basic canon digital cameras like the powershot. I want to take better pictures and am getting the Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens.
Are there any websites that teach you the basics on how to use it? I searched on Youtube but there were mostly reviews. Help! I do better with videos that walk me through rather than just reading through the manual.

rob answers:
All cameras are the same and work the same with a few little differences
watch tutorials on basic camera control: iso, white balance, shutter speed, apperture
brand and model mean nothing really,

George asks…
Information on slr cameras, manual vs digital? canon vs nikon? help me please?
I’m starting to get serious about photography and i would really appreciate some advice from people who know slr cameras pretty well. i’ve been on like very website look from reviews to comparing cameras. i would like either a canon or a nikon, and i’m trying to decide between manual vs digital. i want to be able to capture pictures of basically anything, and i’m looking for really high quality. tops 1000$. please give me as much information as possible, i would appreciate it very much. thank you ![]()

rob answers:
By “manual” I’m assuming you mean film. There are lots of advantages in digital cameras as I’m sure you are aware, processing fees, printing only what you want printed, simply deleting those you don’t want, all those things and many more.
All of the above camera suggestions are good and worth consideration.
If you’ve on many web sites you’ve already done lots of research and that’s a good thing. Most of us regulars will recommend Canon or Nikon and also recommend buying all the camera you can afford.
Be especially careful about lens selection. A good lens is the most important single part of any dslr.
