rob answers:
I would suggest Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with a zoom lens
# Full HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution; HDMI output
# 3.0-inch Clear View LCD; Live View Function for stills (Quick, Live and Face Detection AF modes) and video

Charles asks…
How do I turn the Video mode on with my Canon EOS Rebel XS?
I know the canon rebel T1i (or something like that) has the video mode, does the XS? If so how do i turn it on? (there not just like a option on the mode knob)
Thanks?

rob answers:
That’s correct. I own an XS – sorry, no video. I also have a t1i – HD video but it’s another
$750 with an 18-55. Why did you think the XS did video?

Ruth asks…
How can I get videos off of my Canon Rebel T1i onto my computer?
Every time I plug the cord into my computer to copy all the pictures/video to my files, it just counts the video as a picture and I cannot watch it or open it into Windows Movie Maker. Do I need a special cord to sync videos, or am I doing something wrong?

rob answers:
You should be able to directly play them in windows. Are you sure you were taking videos and they were actually copied to your pc?

James asks…
Can I make stop motion videos with my Canon Rebel T1i?
I wanna make some stop motion videos with my new Rebel. Can I do this with this camera, and if so, how?

rob answers:
You can do stop motion videos with any camera, but if you’re looking for an automatic feature within the camera that does everything automatically for you, you’re out of luck. Stop motion is done in software.

Carol asks…
Why doesn’t my Canon Rebel T1i shoot nice, high quality video?
I have shot a few videos with it, and I had the movie record size at 1280 x 720. Every video I have seen shot with that is in perfect crisp quality, and shot and uploaded a video to youtube, and I’ll put the link below to give an example as to what I mean by the bad quality. I really need to shoot a new video tomorrow but I don’t want to waste my time if the quality is going to be poor. If you could help and tell me what to put my settings to, I’d appreciate so so much. Thanks in advance! (btw, I shoot with just the 18-55mm kit lens, but I don’t think should make a difference.)

rob answers:
You have two issues I can see right away.
1) you are not using a geared follow focus system and LCD loupe
2) most of the video is slightly over exposed.
Here is what you need to produce quality images using a dSLR that happens to have a video feature.

You can use the EV setting on the camera to get more saturation. Try -0.3 EV to start and slowly subtract more exposure from your takes, -0.6, -1.0, etc
NOTE: You are right, using the 18-55 mm lens is not going to matter much.
Since HD video only uses 1 mp of your cameras sensor, you will not see the difference between your entry level lens and a $1,700 L lens.
