Robert asks…

Is the Canon EOS rebel XS a good camera?

I want the Canon EOS Rebel XS Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 IS Lens w/ Image Stabilization (EOSREBELXS) and i have been wanting it for a very long time! I know some people with it and i heard so many good reviews and how its great! Would this be a good camera to have because i dont want to have it for a year. I want to have it for a long time and last me a long time!!! Is it a good camera? I want to get it for christmas!!!
Basically what im asking is if this camera is good to last me for a very long time?

rob answers:

Yes is the direct answer to your question is the Canon EOS rebel XS a good camera. Although I have owned Canon cameras for many years, I don’t own this particular series (EOS Rebel). I have noted that this camera has been an entry level camera and it has been upgraded many times over. That said, a manufacturer would not give a camera a name similar to a previous model unless that previous model was a good seller with few problems.

Sharon asks…

Which camera is better? Nikon 6.1MP D40 or Canon EOS Rebel XS?

Canon EOS Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55IS Lens or Nikon 6.1MP Digital Camera with 18-55mm. Lens – D40. The reviews are great on both. I just didn’t know if the difference in the MP will make that big of a difference. The Nikon is $100 less, but I just want the best camera out of the two. I am getting the camera to take pics of my little boys. My cannon elph is fine for keeping track of memories but is not good for frame-worthy pics. Any feedback would be great. Thanks!
Thanks everyone! I went with the Nikon D60. I ordered it online and can’t wait til it arrives!

rob answers:

If you want best camera go for Nikon. Nikon’s result is always better than any other brands.

David asks…

Nikon d3000 vs. Canon Rebel XS?

I’m looking forward to getting a low-priced DSLR camera, and these two seem the best for my price limit. Both have good reviews, but which is better for my specific uses?

-I travel a lot and need excellent, high-quality photos to capture all the amazing sites.
-I’m a beginner at photography. In fact, I’ve never had a DSLR camera before. Which is easier for newbies to use?
-I plan on taking a photography class.
-I want to do fun photo-shoots with friends.

Which has better photo quality? Which has faster shutter speeds? Which has a better batter life?

All in all, which is the better camera?

rob answers:

None is really better than the other. Both are just about as easy to use, but the D3000 has a “guide mode” which can help under some conditions. Both have comparable image quality, speed, and handling.

Personally, I like Nikon’s grip, handling, and ergonomics better, but that’s just my personal preference. The Xs, from what I remembered from using it, uses extremely hard plastics even on the control dial and places it at a weird angle which make it extremely awkward to use (and it kind of hurts my index finger too when I use the control dial).

I say go to a camera store, and go with the one that fits mostly comfortable in your hands. Neither camera will dissappoint.

Helen asks…

Canon EOS Rebel XS….?

When I review my image and zoom in, can I save the new zoomed in image? If so, how?

rob answers:

Usually DSLR cameras are not filled with gimmicks such as that. Go on the computer and do it. You have a higher chance of corrupting the memory card and losing all your pictures if you constantly view and change your pictures.

Just do it on the computer, it is much simpler, easier, faster, and better.
