This is a digital SLR camera, it doesn’t have a video mode. The only digital SLR than can record movies is the Nikon d90. At the moment, nothing from canon, sorry. Also, the D90 is $1,000 and that’s body only. You don’t really need a video mode in your camera. Right?

I think you can. I don’t know what features you will not be able to access, but the mount is the same.

I had a Canon XL-1 and we used fixed focus Canon lenses.

Well, image-quality wise, the 5d mark 2 has 21.1 MP in a full-frame cmos sensor, versus the 400d’s 10.1 MP aps-sized cmos, so you should get a noticable bump in resolution. The new digic 4 processor in the 5d mark2 (versus the digic 2 in the 400d) should hopefully give you better results when it comes to noise supression also. Not to mention you can go as high as iso 25,600, versus the maximum iso 1,600 in the 400d. The 5d mark 2 isn’t known for really high burst rates, but its 4.9 fps sure beats out the 400d’s 3 fps. There’s a whole lot of other features and upgrades, but all in all, i’m sure you’ll notice a whole lot of difference over your old camera.

they haven’t come out with the full 5d mark2 review yet, but it’s something you could watch out for. Also, i’d follow the previous answerer’s advice: get good lenses. As with the 50d, this high-megapixel canon won’t come to much with dime-a-dozen lenses, so you’ll probably have to go L-series if you want to make the most of its imaging capabilities.

Sorry but the canon rebel xti does not take videos, it’s a camera alone. I own a canon rebel xti, and so far i find it really nice. It’s fun to play around with the settings until i take the picture the way i imagined it to appear. It has a very high quality to it, i also love the fact that it’s not as heavy as some other DSLRs that i’ve looked at, so it’s not that tiring to bring.
